The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor. The name in and of itself doesn't mean much, unless you know the history of the Spanish Inquisition or in this case are anxiously waiting for the 2014 premiere of Star Wars Rebels! I, of course, and referring the the later. If you aren't aware, back in October during the New York Comic Con, the villain of the up coming Star Wars Rebels TV show was revealed by Rebels executive produce Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm's Pablo Hidalgo. There was an introduction video which you can find on YouTube or StarWars.com , but here is the photo released after the announcement:

My Geek Christmas present.....

Image
So I hope you all had a great Christmas. I most definitely did.  Great time with family celebrating on Christmas day with my in-laws as well as today with my family, including my sister and her family in from Arkansas. So the big question I see going around Facebook and Twitter is what did you get for Christmas that celebrated what ever fandom the post was from. Though I got a lot of clothes, and am rocking a new iPad mini, I did get this:

Merry Christmas 2013

Image
So I'm sitting here, presents mostly wrapped, decorations out, hours before the Christmas Candlelight Service. My daughter is eating her dinner, watching Polar Express and the Christmas tree is lit up in all its holiday glory. We have been to Lights of Lakeland, we have been to Disney's Hollywood Studios to see the Osbourne Christmas Lights (and snuck in a ride on Star Tours). I have battled the crowds at Target, Publix and the dreaded Walmart. The Christmas season is in full swing. But I have a confession to make. For the first time ever, I haven't been excited for Christmas at all. It has not felt like Christmas. I haven't had the "Christmas Spirit". This is something I have been struggling with for a couple weeks. There is a lot I could blame it on: work, finances, illness in the family, basically waiting on the inevitable passing of my grandmother. With all that going on who could possibly be in the Christmas spirit? But with all I have done above, w

Star Wars Weekends 2014 Dates

YES!!!!! Finally announced by Disney the dates of the of the 2014 Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida. Now, I've had a lot going on and didn't post when this announcement broke on Friday, but here you go: Weekend #1: May 16-18 Weekend #2: May 23-25 Weekend #3 May 30-June 1 Weekend #4: June 6-8 Now as of right now, nothing has been announced in the way of guest, but as I hear I'll post. I plan on being there every weekend. With Star Wars Rebel's being released not long after, I expect to there to be some news about the upcoming show. In my wildest dreams hopefully even a trailer and even some of the voice talent there as well. We will have to wait to see if Disney makes those dreams come true. Of course, it wouldn't be Star Wars Weekends without the hosting talents of James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Eckstein. So I'm definitely hoping that Disney brings them back as host. James's Obi-Wan and Beyond show he has done

Where to begin....

This tends to happen every holiday, after Thanksgiving days fly by and before you can blink its Christmas.  That's what happened to me, I can't believe it took so long for me to write a new blog, time flew by, and the news came rolling in. Whether it was new writers for both Star Wars Episode 7 and Star Trek reboot 3, or the pic of R2-D2 with J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy at the studio in England. So much news... but I need to geek out on one thing that happened this week. No, not the cool Stormtrooper t-shirt my wife got me for my birthday. I'm talking about the announcement from Disney that they reached an agreement with Paramount Pictures over the Indiana Jones property. Yes, you read it right, the future of the most famous archeologist in the history is now in the hands of the Mouse. What does this mean for Dr. Jones? To find this out lets take a look at the deal.

Happy Thanksgiving

Well it's that time of day that comes around once a year where everyone is in their post turkey comas, the Lions are playing on national TV for the only time this year, and every commercial is trying to entice me to be at their store at the butt crack of dawn to get the best deals of the year. I worked retail for over 10 years, let me let you in on a secret...Black Friday doesn't have the best deals of the year! Sure retailers will tell you it is, and they will have a dozen or so items at an extremely high discounted price, but chances are the number of items are limited and what you truly want isn't on sale. Retailers want you to focus on the sales and "savings" going on tomorrow, but what about the true meaning of Thanksgiving. It's not the sales.  It's not the turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, or what ever else is cooked. The true meaning is family and being able to spend time not only with them, but a time to focus i

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Hello again. Today  I want to discuss Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.   Spinning out from the success of Marvel Avengers, this show focuses in on a rag tag team of non superhero agents of a not so secret agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) as they run the globe protecting the unknown. Now I'm gonna make this clear right now, I'm not a comic book reader. I can't say I have ever actually read a comic book in its entirety. My exposure to the Marvel and DC universes are strictly through the movies: Superman, Batman, X-Men, Iron Man, Avengers, etc.; or through T.V shows: Batman The Animated Series, Super Friends, Batman Beyond, etc. Now knowing this, my views of these properties and this show in particular are not going to be based on comic books. I'm a big fan of the podcast Geek Out Loud! and the hosts Steve and Derek keep me in stitches each show and have a great insight into most things geek (except Star T

Disney vs Star Wars????

The reports are coming out all over the place over the past few days and it appears that something I have feared for a since the Disney takeover took place is coming to pass. Since October of last year, when it was announced that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm and that Episode 7 was going to come out in 2015, I was stoked and yet held some reservations. Knowing a little of the backgrounds of both companies, I knew Disney wouldn't waste time pushing the Star Wars brand around to make money and it all starts with episode 7. Why are you afraid you ask. Let me explain. Disney announced that Episode 7 in October of 2012, with a release date of 2015.   JJ   Abrams was named director in January of this year. No casting has been announced and rumors now state script is at square one with the departure of  Michael Arndt . Now this gives them a year and a half assuming they are shooting for a summer 2015 release.  A year and a half.

Family Geek Out

So other than the Wars and other sci-fi franchises I geek out on, the most important part of my like I geek out on the most is my family, and today was geek out day, family style! Now the only way Star Wars played a part in my day was my shirt: Darth Vader standing all regal surrounded by several stormtroopers, with Chewbacca photo bombing behind them, with a big red foam finger that reads "Rebels #1". The geek out was a full day spent with my princess, my 6 year old Kailynn. Yes, I know it's a Monday, but it was a teacher work day so she had the day off. So we spent the day together. First we went to Chuck E Cheese, and boy did we hit the jackpot. I will tell you a secret. If you get there when they open and have just turned on the games, the games cycle through and spit out anywhere from 1 to 25 tickets and the employees just leave them there! So before dropping a single cent, Kailynn started off with about 150 tickets. After about 2 hours, she totaled out with 420

So Surreal

So its been almost a year since the announcement of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and the announcement of Episode 7. So much has happened since then: the end of the Emmy award winning show The Clone Wars, announcement of the new Star War Rebels show, J.J. Abrams announced as director and the great John Williams announced as composing the soundtrack for Episode 7.   All these things have left my fandom in a surreal state. The level of anticipation and excitement have me on the edge of my seat, grasping for news of any kind about the movie and the new show. I'm on such a high, it feels like at any moment, I'm gonna wake up and it will all have been a dream.  Every time I hear an announcement I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm still awake.   With us closing in on the end of 2013, more announcements are on the way. Filming for Episode 7 begins in early 2014, and no cast has been announced yet, which means.....its coming soon. More stills are being released a

Star Wars Rebels: Teaser Trailer

Image
So tonight Disney and Lucasfilm released a short 16 second teaser for the upcoming animated TV show Star Wars Rebels. Its the highly anticipated show that is the first project for Dave Filoni, who was praised as the supervising director of the Emmy award winning Star Wars The Clone Wars. Here is the teaser below, my thoughts to follow.
